(a chilly November evening, Berkhamsted. Stage right, a small desk in a study. A cup of cold tea and a computer in front of Dotty, a woman in her th
irties (but looking much younger). She finishes typing and looks up)

Dotty (shouts) Toto come in here a minute!

Toto (voice off stage) Is it important?

Dotty (shouts) yes of course

(Enter Toto, darkly handsome, mysterious and a little tired)

Toto What is it?

Dotty (excitedly) Look…. I have actually made a start!

(Toto leans over Dotty’s shoulder and reads the scant words on her monitor)

Toto (softly) There’s a typo in the first sentence….. and the second one doesn’t quite make sense

(Dotty looks sad)

Toto (kindly) I’ll pop the kettle on…

  1. oo… Toto? if you’re brewing, I’ll take one

  2. Dear Nicki off Big Brother

Reading your blog has really struck me, in a profound way. Absorbing these heart-felt words, (mostly spelled and constructed in the right order) and reflecting on my fortunate role in your incredible play, brings one thing into sharp focus….

that “comeuppance” has a “cuppa” in it

That the boy-wonder is mastering web sites that I don’t even know how to get onto, and when he does show me I can’t even swear properly – well no surprise anywhere there.

We are very proud of you, and very pleased that you’ve already done a month or so and that must mean the end is nearer!

And don’t worry, I haven’t noticed the mess, it’s not like we were OCD in the first place..

  3. I spent two hours today buying a Dyson. It wouldn’t be so bad if i didn’t have one already. I think my resistance to distractions is low…

In my expereince, the cuppa solves most things, and if it comes with a friend, all the better!
